Supported by the Baker-Polito Administration and the Massachusetts Legislature, the MassTech Intern Partnership (MTIP) program provides stipends to digital technology companies that are starting and scaling-up across Massachusetts to directly support internships for Massachusetts college and graduate students. This program is the same as the Summer 2022 Internship Program except for the differences outlined on this page.
The program enables eligible companies to hire eligible interns, helping drive innovation and keeping our tech sector dynamic, vibrant, and growing across the Commonwealth. Companies can be reimbursed for up to 50% of the intern's hourly wage up to $8 per hour for a total of $3,200/year per individual intern. Eligible companies may apply for up to 2 interns per calendar year. This year, eligible companies in the priority focus areas of Cybersecurity, Digital Health, Fintech, and Robotics may apply for up to 3 interns per calendar year. All interns must be compensated as employees, not contractors, with required payroll withholdings.
The 2022 MTIP program continues to support digital technology startups and tech companies on the critical pathway to growth. In order to be eligible to participate, companies must:
- be headquartered in Massachusetts;
- have 250 or fewer employees;
- hire a talented eligible intern this summer; and
- pay the intern as a W-2 employee with required payroll withholdings.
Important Updates for Fall 2022:
MTIP will begin accepting applications for the Fall Internship Program immediately and run through September 30th.
This year, eligible Cybersecurity, Digital Health, Fintech, and Robotics companies may apply for up to 3 interns per calendar year.
The MassTech Intern Partnership Program provides matching grants to eligible tech companies to partially reimburse intern salaries. After a company recruits an intern the company must apply to the Program through the MassTech website. The Program accepts applications on a rolling basis through September 30, 2022. After MassTech confirms the company’s eligibility, the company will be required to sign an Intern Sponsorship Agreement. At the conclusion of the internship, participating companies can seek reimbursement according to Program guidelines.
MassTech will begin accepting applications immediately for the fall internship program MassTech, and will continue to accept applications until either September 30th or until all stipends have been given, whichever comes first. All reimbursement requests must be submitted by December 31, 2022 according to the Program guidelines.
Eligible companies may apply for up to 2 interns per calendar year. This year, eligible companies in the priority focus areas of Cybersecurity, Digital Health, Fintech, and Robotics may apply for up to 3 interns per calendar year. Please keep in mind that since it is per calendar year that if you received funding for your maximum allowed interns in the Summer program you aren’t eligible for Fall funding.
